KANDY ESALA PERAHERA❤

 The Esala Perahera in Kandy is one of the oldest and grandest of all Buddhist festivals in Sri Lanka, featuring dancers, jugglers, musicians, fire-breathers, and lavishly decorated elephants. This is held in Esala .which is the month that is believed to commemorate the first teaching given by the Buddha after he attained enlightenment. The Kandy Esala Perahera lasts for ten days while various festivities can be witnessed right throughout.The Kandy Esala Perahera also known as The Festival of the Tooth is a festival held in July and August in Kandy, Sri Lanka. This historical procession is held annually to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of Buddha, which is housed at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy.The Esala Perahera in Kandy is celebrated to honour the Sacred Tooth Relic and the four ‘guardian’ Gods Natha, Vishnu, Kataragama and Goddess Pattini.Rituals are performed before the procession.The first thing to do here is the "kap situweema" ritual.The procession carrying the Tooth Relic will take to the streets here.The procession ends with the water cutting ceremony.The procession will take to the streets for seven days.The procession ends with the water cutting ceremony.This is one of the most spectacular perahera festivals in South Asia.This has attracted many local and foreign tourists.We feel very proud to watch this.
